HistoryInitially Bageshwar was the tehsil of Almora District but on 15th September 1997 it was separated from Almora and has become an independent district. According to Hindu Mythology it was the place where gods and sages came to meditate to lord Shiva. Lord Shiva came into this place in the form of lion that’s why its name has become Bageshwar. Later the temple of Bageshwar was established by a Chanda dynasty king Laxmi Chanda in 1450 AD.
