GaurikundGuarikund is named after Goddess Parvati who is the wife of Lord Shiva. The place has a temple dedicated to Goddess and is largely visited by devotees from corners of the state. This place forms a commencement point for the trekkers going to Kedarnath. The trekking to Kedarnath is 14kms long distance. One of the sacred facts famous about this place is that the Lord Shiva accepted marital unification with Parvati here and married her in Trijuginarayan. This place unfolds vast lush green sceneries, natural thermal springs and Vasuki Ganga flowing beside. Total distance of Gaurikund from Rudraprayag is 66kms.
TrijuginarayanIt is the famous place where Lord Shiva tied marital knots to Goddess Parvati. This place is located at a distance of 12kms away from Sonprayag. Moreover, the holy flame around which Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati took “Phere” and vowed to be together is still burning and is considered to be immortal.
KedarnathKedarnath is one of the sacred placed for Hindu pilgrims of India with Lord Shiva being the residing deity of the temple. The temple is located at a high altitude of 3,548 mts above sea level in the foothills of Himalayan peaks. The temple is situated at 80kms distance from Rudraprayag. In order to reach Kedarnath one has to begin the trek from Gaurikund. Kedarnath temple was built by Adi Shankaracharya in the 8 century and is one of the 12 Jyotirlingas of India and the main temple of the Five temples present here. The temple stays close during the winter season due to heavy rainfall.
ChoptaChopta is known as Mini Switzerland and has number of tourists visiting it each year. Off lately, amount of sightseers visiting Chopta has amplified over the period of time and it has become a much famous adventure spot. Tungnath temple which is situated at great altitudinal height is only 3.5 kms away from Chopta. Chopta is only 64kms away from Rudraprayag and the regions stays flourished with tourists coming from different corners of the world. It is a perfect natural spot to visit during winter season.
UkhimathThis place is home to Madhyamaheshwar and Kedarnath in winters and is one of the popular destinations of Rudraprayag. Ukhimath is ideally inhabited by Rawal’s who are the head priests of Kedarnath. Ukhimath is located at a distance of 37kms from Rudraprayag and unfolds captivating views to majestic Himalayan range.
KhirsuLocated at a distance of 56kms from Pauri, Khirsu is located at an altitudinal height of 1,700 mts above sea level. Khirsu is located at a tranquil place and is surrounded by thick and dense forest of Oak and Deodar. The place is situated at Pauri Garhwal and doles out captivating views to magnificent Himalayan range.
