Nanda Devi temple is one of the most visited holy temples in Kumaon region of Uttarakhand state. The temple is located in Almora town above the Mall Road and is believed to have been the Goddess honored by the kings of Kumaon and Garhwal region. Founded 1000 years back, Nanda Devi Temple is devoted to the patron Goddess of the Chand era.
Goddess Nanda Devi is said to be the destroyer of Evil. It is established within the foyer of Shiva Temple and possesses a glorious shrine adorned by a stone crown or Amalaka, enclosed by a wooden roof. This temple is highly famous for Nanda Devi fair that is held in Almora every year in the month of September on the Ashtami of Bhadra Shukla. Thousands of people from across the world come here to participate in this festival, which is attended with drum beats and vigorous dance steps.
