There was a time when Mahatma Gandhi stayed at Kausani, written an unforgettable interpretation for 'Gita-Anashakti Yoga' after getting motivated by picturesque magnificence of this naturally gifted place. Mahatma Gandhi started calling this place as 'Switzerland of India'. The place where bapu was staying is named as Anashakti Ashram.
There is a popular poet named Sumitra Nandan Pant who took birth at Kausani. She usually use to write poetries describing nature.
