Chamoli is referred as the “Abode of Gods” as it has strong connection with Hindu legends and mythologies. It is recognized for its numerous temples and is the place where Chipko movement saw its inception. Chipko movement is a famous movement that brought the nature of Chamoli and its atrocities to the notice of entire world. The movement was based on the Gandian practice where methods of stayagrah and non vioelence and the act of protecting hugging trees to protect them from being felled.
Chamoli is very old town in the Uttarakhand state that has yet preserved the rich culture of the Garhwal region. People here are completely amiable and very helpful.
Geographical Location of Chamoli
Chamoli is located in the Central Himalayas and forms part of “Kedar Khand” that is located at a higher elevation of 1300 mts above the sea level. The place offers pleasant weather round the year that invites tourists from different corners. The maximum temperature rises here to 34 degree celcius and the minimum dips to the freezing point. Chamoli has diverseand rich flora and fauna andaccepts moderate rainfall during the months of June to September.
