In 1931 two British mountaineers R.L. Holdsworth and Franks S. Smythe discovered ‘Valley of Flowers’ while they were trekking to Mount Kamet. Valley of Flowers is one of the famous national parks of India in Uttarakhand and also included in Nanda Devi Biosphere Reserve as a core zone.

Wide area of 87.50 sq kilometers is covered by Valley of Flowers which lies within west Himalayan region. This huge area is completely covered with myriad alpine flowers. This valley is located in Bhyundar Valley at an altitude of 3658 meters above sea level. Several amazing fresh water waterfalls can be seen on the way to Valley of Flowers.

Eternal beauty of this valley is highly appreciated by adventure lovers, nature lovers and botanists. Along with that you are also going to love this experience of trekking at Valley of Flowers as you would find a wide variety of flowers at this place. Located in Chamoli district of Uttarakhand state, Valley of Flowers is gifted with a wide range of Flora and fauna and in 1982 this natural heritage was announced as National park of India. Presently Valley of Flowers is also counted among UNESCO world heritage sites.

You would also find Ghangaria on the way to Valley of Flowers which is located at a distance of 13 kilometers from Govindghat at an altitude of 3,046 meters above sea level. In the season of winters Ghangaria will remains roofed with bulky snow blankets and in months from June to October this place will remain covered with variety of flowering flora. You would find more than 500 wild flower species with different colors and design at this beautiful place.

When to visit Valley of Flowers

It would be great to visit the place in Jul, Aug and Sep and Valley of flowers remains open between June and October.

Valley of Flower in May

In the month of May snow starts melting in last week so in that period more than flowers you will find the snow. Possibility of rain is quite low in this month. Rain usually starts in Month end of June so if you wish to avoid rainfall you can visit this place in the month of June.

Valley of Flower in June

It is suitable time to visit the valley of flower as more and more pilgrims visit the place for Shri Hemkund Sahib. Due to this there is rise in food cost, transport facility and staying charges. You would also find it hard to search for rooms during this time. But you can see certain flowers in June. Not only will you enjoy watching beautiful flowers but also vast and fine-looking waterfalls and glaciers in this valley of flowers. There is minimal or negligible rain in this month.

Valley of Flower in July and August

High bunch of flowers can be seen in these months as new plants grew up after melting of snow. Variety of flowers blossoms in this valley in mid July and you would enjoy watching around 650 species of flowers in Valley of Flowers. If you wish to see large number of flowers then mid July to Mid August is the best time to observe.

Valley of Flower in September

Autumn season is observed in September for Valley of Flowers and therefore Sep is final month of visiting valley of flower. All the flower plants dry up in this season and their seeds are left for next season flower blooming. Soon after sometime in month end snow starts falling and entry is stopped. You can take last tour to Valley of Flowers only in September last week.
