Neelkanth Mahadev Temple is a consecrated shrine that is located at a distance of 32kms away
from Rishikesh. The temple is located atop the hill at an altitudinal height of 1,330 meters
above the sea level and is widely famous temple of Lord Shiva. It is a famous pilgrimage center
that is located near the Rishikesh and lies exactly above the Swargashram next to Nar Narayan
mountain ranges. The temple stays surrounded by three important valleys namely Brahmakoot,
Vishnukoot and Manikoot that together makes this place a famous religious place and is located
at the confluence of two perennial rivers Madhumati and Pankaja.
Mythological Believes Attached to Neelkanth Mahadev Temple
As per the mythological beliefs, it is said that Neelkanth Mahadev temple is one of the holiest
temples as Lord Shiva drank poison that originated from the ocean during (Samudra Manthan)
and placed it in his throat and his throat became blue due to venomous effect of the poison.
The temple has earned its name after the blue throat of Lord Shiva. Many devotees arrive here
at the temple from farthest corners of the world. Mahadev temple is the ideal place for Lord
Shiva flowerers and people from furthest places come here to offer their prayers to the Lord.

At the entrance door, there are various scenic views of mythological narrations of Samundra
Manthan are crafted. The walls of the temple completely depict the story of Samundra
Manthan with the sculptures of Gods and Demons. The complex of the temple from inside is

the holy shrine. Outside there is a peepal tree where devotees prefer to tie sacred thread and
