Neelkanth Mahadev Temple is a consecrated shrine that is located at a distance of 32kms away from Rishikesh. The temple is located atop the hill at an altitudinal height of 1,330 meters above the sea level and is widely famous temple of Lord Shiva. It is a famous pilgrimage center that is located near the Rishikesh and lies exactly above the Swargashram next to Nar Narayan mountain ranges. The temple stays surrounded by three important valleys namely Brahmakoot, Vishnukoot and Manikoot that together makes this place a famous religious place and is located at the confluence of two perennial rivers Madhumati and Pankaja.

Mythological Believes Attached to Neelkanth Mahadev Temple

As per the mythological beliefs, it is said that Neelkanth Mahadev temple is one of the holiest temples as Lord Shiva drank poison that originated from the ocean during (Samudra Manthan) and placed it in his throat and his throat became blue due to venomous effect of the poison. The temple has earned its name after the blue throat of Lord Shiva. Many devotees arrive here at the temple from farthest corners of the world. Mahadev temple is the ideal place for Lord Shiva flowerers and people from furthest places come here to offer their prayers to the Lord.

Neelkanth Mahadev Temple and its Architecture

Neelkanth Mahadev Shrine is made of various eye-catching and colorful patterns and designs. At the entrance door, there are various scenic views of mythological narrations of Samundra Manthan are crafted. The walls of the temple completely depict the story of Samundra Manthan with the sculptures of Gods and Demons. The complex of the temple from inside is made to offer equally divine and beautiful scriptures. Besides, a sacred shivlinga is located in the holy shrine. Outside there is a peepal tree where devotees prefer to tie sacred thread and make a wish. Besides, there is a natural spring is situated nearby and pilgrims prefer to go for holy dip.

Large number of devotees arrives at the Neelkanth Mahadev Temple during the eve of Maha Shivratri and celebrates the festival with full vigor, joy and fun. Devotees offer bael, milk, coconut, flowers and chandan to the Shivlinga of Lord Shiva.

Trek to Neelkanth Mahadev Shrine from Rishikesh

The Holy shrine of Lord Shiva is surrounded by thick and dense forest and is located at the hilltop. Trekkers can reach to the temple via 22kms trek from Ram Jhula.

How to Arrive at Neelkanth Mahadev Temple

The holy Shrine is situated at a distance of 32kms away Rishikesh and is strongly connected via road. To arrive at the shrine one can travel via taxi that runs to and from Ram Jhula, Rishikesh.
