Kaleshwar Mahadev Temple

This is one of the oldest temples that were constructed for Lord Shiva. This temple is the center of attraction and is a major point of devotion for the people here in Lansdowne. Most of the people from the brave Garhwal regiment visit here to offer their prayers. Kaleshwar temple is situated near the main Lansdowne city. Kaleshwar Mahadev has earned its name after the Sage Kalun who used to perform meditation here.

Oldest Shiva Temples

For the devotees of Lord Shiva, Kaleshwar temple is the must to visit place. The place not only holds religious value but also unfolds scenic view of Mother Nature. The place is also famous for being the meditation sight for the sages. Samadhis of many sages has been built in the periphery of the temple.

The temple consist Shivlinga of Lord Shiva which Self-formed. As per the stories attached to this place, the locales here once lost their cows. Later, when they were found, the cows were milking on the Shivlinga all by themselves.

People also firmly believe in the history that around 5000 years ago, Kalun, the famous sage performed yoga here afore the Shivlinga. And therefore the place earned its name after Sage Kalun and was known as Kaludanda. The temple was constructed in the year 1901 and a Dharamshala was built nearby which is now well-preserved and maintained by the Garhwal Regiment.
